In the late 70’s Ian and Louise moved to “Wilga” on the black soil plains near the small township of Bellata, North Western New South Wales where they fell in love with cattle, farming and Santa Gertrudis. It is here that they raised their 3 children Michael, Simon and Alice.
Tookey Creek Santa Gertrudis Stud was founded in 1987, after Santa heifers were introduced from their great family friend and mentor “Uncle Arthur” (the late Arthur Kirkby). The love of Santas quickly grew, and it wasnt long before a Santa herd was developed and the stud registered shortly after. As the stud adveanced, associations grew with the likes of Kensit Kelly and Gordon Bevan who became great family friends and mentors.
Today, Ian and Louise are still active in the day to day of “Wilga”. Michael and his wife Danni family returned in 2009 to help manage the family farm and feedlot. Simon, who lived overseas for a period, has recently returned to Australia with his wife Holly and works in the grain industry. Alice has completed a Veterinary Science degree and has recently moved to Toobeah near Goondiwindi with her husband Dave.
